Eagle Scout procedures

Troop 41 Eagle Procedures

Now that you are a Life Scout you should be excited about the final leg of your journey to the Eagle rank. Eagle procedures have changed at council and our procedures are also changing. The process is all electronic. The council WEB site:

https://www.mayflowerbsa.org/program/youth/advancement/

has documents that will guide you on your path to Eagle:

Start by downloading the Eagle Scout Workbook and finding an Eagle coach to help you. While an Eagle coach is not required, it is strongly encouraged.

Current coaches are:

Don Zickus

Vince Daniello

You need to carefully follow the instructions carefully. You might miss that:

  • If you do not save the workbook and your application to your computer before you start filling it out you might not be able to save your edits.
  • Some of the fields are propagated throughout the document and it can only be changed at the first place it is found.
  • Your proposal is sent to headwatersadvancement@mayflowerbsa.org
  • Your application is sent to eaglescoutapplicationsubmission@mayflowerbsa.org
  • You need to understand the procedures for reference letters.
  • Understand what information you will need and make sure you keep careful notes in a spiral notebook. Record the time/date/who for each meeting so you can total up your hours. Review the workbook so you know what questions to ask like permits required etc.

The proposal is now mostly a description of your project so it can be determined if it is appropriate as an eagle project. The scoutmaster with the help of the Eagle coach is responsible to determine if you know what you need to do and how to lead as you begin the planning of your project. When you have completed the planning the scoutmaster with the help of the Eagle coach will determine if you have a plan and are ready to schedule your project.

As “Unit Advancement Coordinator”, I will receive your reference letters and your Eagle Application binder. I recommend, but do not require, that I review all of your paperwork before you get it signed. I can also create the “PDF” file of the pages you will submit as your proposal.

I am available to help you:

  • Find a project
  • Understand the process
  • Meet with you and your beneficiary to insure that all points are covered.
  • With the information you will need for the proposal and the application.
  • Contact list
  • Eagle application assistance report

Think carefully about when you want to start on your Eagle Project. You only get to do one Eagle Project and you want get the most benefit from it by being ready for this responsibility. When you think you are ready:

  • Talk to the scoutmaster to review your readiness.
  • Contact the Committee Chair for a copy of the contact information you will need to start you paperwork.
  • Get something like a spiral notebook to keep all of your notes and hours for meetings and work on your project.
  • Remember your responsibility is to lead your project and not to do it. Get help from experts and volunteers
